Startup Career Fair 2017

Create Your Future

With Singapore’s future economy anchored on innovation, a career in the startup sector offers so much more than personal and professional growth – it’s an invitation to shape the future.

The (career) path less travelled is becoming the path to the future.

Consider this: The Employer of Choice Survey 2016 by CareerBuilder Singapore produced some interesting results after speaking to over 1,800 locals — a good 59% of them are interested in working in a startup. Top reasons cited include vast learning opportunities (82%), exposure to a wide spectrum of job roles (63%) and the opportunity to work closely with a group of passionate and enthusiastic colleagues (61%).

It appears that Singaporeans are on the right track, especially since the local startup ecosystem is getting a timely boost from the government in the form of funding and growth support. With innovation mooted as a key pillar of the future economy, the Singapore Budget 2017 featured some welcome news for startups, such as:

  • Support for rising talent and operational costs with the SME Working Capital Loan and Wage Credit Scheme
  • Support for greater capability building with the SME Go Digital Programme and A*STAR Operation and Technology Road-mapping
  • Support to grow and internationalise with the International Partnership Fund and Global Innovation Alliance

The Global Innovation Alliance is particularly exciting for startups as it’s designed to help Singaporeans gain overseas experience in key regional markets, build international networks and collaborate with like-minded people in other innovative cities (think: San Francisco and Beijing for a start). With the alliance’s three programmes — Innovators Academy for tertiary students, Innovation Launchpads for entrepreneurs and Welcome Centres for foreign companies — there’s no better time to be part of a startup!

Kickstart Your Startup Career

This is undoubtedly an exciting time to be part of a startup, whether you choose to set up your own or work for one. If the latter has piqued your interest, regardless of whether you’re a student, fresh graduate or mid-career professional, you might want to mark your diary now. Singapore’s inaugural Startup Career Fair is happening on 30 March 2017, 4pm, at JTC LaunchPad @ one-north.

For the first time, the event brings together over 110 startups such as Glints, ShopBack & TheSmartLocal offering more than 360 full-time, part-time and internship opportunities. The career fair will be a convenient and excellent way for you to get acquainted with the local startup community. Many founders have confirmed their attendance and commitment to interacting with job-seekers, so this is your chance to get an inside scoop on life in a startup.

“If you’re looking for fast-paced, exponential growth in your career, you should definitely consider working in a startup. The teams are often lean, so you’ll have the chance to work directly with founders and get involved in different aspects of the business. The skills, knowledge and experiences that you’ll gain are invaluable in the long run, regardless of your future career plans.” – Qin En, Co-Founder of Glints
